Green Hydrogen Production

Electrolyzers and fuel cells modeling

The ARES group develops advanced Python-based models to simulate the short- and long-term behavior of commercial electrolyzers and fuel cells. The research focuses on accurately reproducing the electro-thermal dynamics of these systems, including a detailed thermal model to estimate operating temperature variations.
The models also evaluate the impact of time and temperature on performance degradation, particularly on the conversion efficiency from electricity to hydrogen.
These accurate simulation models are also used to study the effectiveness of the hydrogen vector in microgrids and in combination with other storage means as batteries

Hydrogen production for hard-to-abate sectors

The ARES group conducts research on renewables-powered electrolysis systems designed to supply a continuous flow of green hydrogen for industrial applications. The goal is to enable the decarbonization of hard-to-abate manufacturing processes, such as steel production, through optimized integration of renewable energy sources and hydrogen generation technologies.
