Biography

Dr. Sandro Raspanti is an engineer specializing in high-performance powertrain systems and advanced fluid dynamics. He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florence 2025, obtained in collaboration with Baker Hughes-Nuovo Pignone, where his research focused on developing numerical and experimental techniques for H2 reciprocating compressors.

Dr. Raspanti's expertise in Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) was developed through his Master's in Vehicle Engineering and his formative experience with the Firenze Race Team (FSAE). From 2014 to 2019, he was a key member of the team, leading the development of their first-ever turbocharged engine. He continues to apply this passion as a powertrain engineer and ECU tuning instructor in motorsport.

Research Projects & Areas of Interests

Reciprocating Compressors

  • Experimental and numerical analysis of oil-free sealing rings behaviour (with a focus on H2 applications).

Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and Powertrain

  • 1D Simulation and Modelling:
      • Advanced simulations of engine fluid dynamics, driveline, and vehicle cycle.
  • Experimentation and Diagnostics:
      • Experimental activity on advanced combustion measurement techniques.
      • Engine emissions measurement and analysis.
      • Fault diagnostics and debugging (ECU and mechanical issues).
  • Prototype Development and Calibration:
      • CAD design for rapid prototype development (fast prototyping).
      • Wiring and harness development.
      • ECU calibration (from 1st engine fire-up to map fine-tuning).
